Ukraine’s superior tactical mindset appears to have paid off handsomely. The idea always was to lure more and more Russian troops and Wagner mercenaries deeper and deeper into what’s left of Bakhmut. Ukrainian troops would gradually move away, feigning retreat, tricking Russia into believing they had won the battle.

But now that Russians are all in, confident they have prevailed, despite losing tens of thousands of soldiers and tons of war materiel, Ukrainian operators are turning around and commencing an operation to encircle the city and annihilate the Russian troops trapped inside the cauldron.
