Ukrainian forces have reportedly seized an operational advantage around Bakhmut, with troops pressing forward.
The now ruined city of Bakhmut, once home to around 80,000 people, became a meat grinder for the Russian army, which lost tens of thousands of men and massive amounts of equipment in a futile attempt to attain a pyrrhic victory.
The Ukrainian plan all along was to get Russia to lose as many soldiers and as much equipment as possible ahead of the now ongoing counter-offensive, thus rendering the Russian gain moot.
Ukraine is now making territorial gains across all lines of contact as the Russian army was severely weakened after the months’ long massacre at Bakhmut.
