The latest Russian tactical blunder has seen the decimation of an entire strike force as it attempted to cross a 500m stretch of open and narrow terrain in full view of Ukrainian artillery spotters and drone operators.

The savage mauling happened in the outskirts of Vuhledar, a small town dotted with hi-rise buildings where superior Ukrainian tacticians wisely positioned a network of spotters.

Prior to the disaster, the Russian forces appeared to vastly outnumber the Ukrainian defenders, and on paper, they did. But numerical superiority means nothing when incompetent commanders order a military formation to simply advance along a narrow strip of open no-man’s land.

The strike force combined infantry, including elite marines and paratroopers, with armor elements, which deployed T-72 and T-80 tanks. These vehicles, though the best that the Russian army can muster at this point, stand zero chance against Western-supplied machines. Once the Leopards, Challengers, and Abrams roll onto the battlefield, it’s game over for Russia.

The offensive faltered quickly after Ukrainian shells began raining on the advancing Russians, who had nowhere to hide and nowhere to run. In the aftermath, the narrow strip of terrain was littered with mangled bodies and smoking hulks of metal. Yet hundreds more lives cut short for no gain whatsoever.
