Russia is making a desperate last stand at Svatove to protect the only viable resupply route open to them.

Svatove is a small town that stands east of the recently liberated city of Izyum and north of Severodonetsk.

But as it happens, Svatove is sited right on the P66 highway, which runs right into the Donbas region. If Svatove falls, Ukraine will cut off the last of Russia’s supply routes and be in a position to press on southwards towards Severodonetsk and further south still towards Donetsk.
