The northern lights put on the autumn’s first show Tuesday night, mbl.is reports. Morgunblaðið reporter Hafþór Hreiðarsson in Húsavík, North Iceland, witnessed the colorful spectacle and caught some magnificent pictures as they lit up Skálfandi bay.

The northern lights appeared in the sky above Reykjavík this week as well, but their dance only lasted a few minutes before a curtain of clouds dropped over them.
According to the Icelandic astronomy website, stjornufraedi.is , on average, the northern lights most frequently appear between 11 pm and 1 am.
The northern lights appear in the sky when large numbers of electrons from the sun stream at high speed toward the earth along its magnetic field and collide with particles at an altitude of about 100 km.

主要各国の新規感染者数の推移を見ていても、一向に収まる兆候は感じられません。日本でも、自治体によっては対策が実施できているようですが、本来のエピセンター的存在の自治体では無策に近い状態で、あくまで住民の自粛だけに依存しているところがあるようです。さらにはワクチンの自国開発体制や治療薬の開発など、内製化の動きや開発投資・リソース投入など、政治が主導すべきことへのテコ入れは行われているのでしょうか。また、マスコミもそのことを繰り返し伝えているのでしょうか。
