It has begun. Ukraine’s much-awaited counter-offensive appears to be finally underway, following months of preparation.

Initial reports suggest that Ukrainian units have broken through extremely weak Russian defence lines across multiple sectors.

In the Novodonetsk area, south west of Donetsk, Ukrainian vanguard units have advanced up to 6kms in a matter of hours. Ukraine’s 21st and 31st Mechanized Brigades, which include six mechanized and two tank battalions, were reportedly fully engaged.

German-supplied Leopard 2 tanks have also made a welcome appearance on the battlefield. These armored beasts outclass anything that the Russians can currently deploy.
